In 1889, he graduated from West Point as a commissioned Second Lieutenant. He was its 3rd Black graduate. In 1894, he was appointed Professor of Military Science at Wilberforce University. Colonel Young was a member of the Buffalo soldiers in the 9th and 10th Calvary. In 1903 with the 10th Calvary, he extended the roads in Sequoia National Park in California. Colonel Charles Young was also one of the first Military Spies for the Military Information Division in Haiti.

MissionAlpha Sigma Psi, a local sorority, was founded and recognized as student organization in 2013. This sorority was founded on the basis of service for current members and that of future generations. The organization believes that sisterhood is a place where individuals from different backgrounds come together and become sisters for life, with the goal of turning young ladies into strong and independent women.

The Association of Neuropsychology Students in Training (ANST) is an interest group open to all levels of students. The purpose of ANST is to provide information, and access to resources for trainees interested in clinical neuropsychology. Neuropsychology is a specialty area within psychology that involves understanding and assessing brain-behavior relationships. ANST is devoted to conducting clinical research, providing our students with hands-on experience, and keeping informed of current literature. ANST is a great opportunity for professional networking.ANST is a student subgroup of Division 40 (Society for Clinical Neuropsychology) of the American Psychological Association (APA). You do not have to be a member of APA to join, but it is highly recommended!
The CMYKlub at Marywood University aims at providing students with a place to share ideas on artistic design in a modern world. The club works collectively to expand knowledge in realms of color, shape, line, composition, typography, photo manipulation, advertisement, and other various areas of design. The club also prepares students for entry-level work and aids them in portfolio layouts, social networking, gallery work, clientele and other company related agencies. The CMYKlub is open to graphic design majors and minors. Members of the CMYKlub become student members of AAF Northeast Pennsylvania, our local advertising club, and have the opportunity to compete in the ADDY Awards. Join the CMYKlub to build your portfolio, attend presentations by visiting artists, and perform pro-bono work.
The team performs at half time at home basketball games, regional community events, and also campus sponsored programs. They also perform in a show each semester with several types of dance. Tryouts occur each fall and are open to all students. Team members must be in good academic standing. They are currently coached by Rachel Baldini.
Delta Epsilon Sigma is a National Honors Society for Students, Alumni, and Faculty of Catholic Colleges and Universities. Undergraduate students must be ranked in the top 20 percent of their class; while graduate students must achieve a minimum GPA of a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Members must have a record of dedication towards community service and bean active member of their community.
Delta Mu Delta is an international honor society that recognizes and rewards the scholastic achievements of business administration students. When business students at Marywood are inducted into the Iota Lambda Chapter, they become members of Delta Mu Delta.
The name Delta Mu Delta signifies through knowledge, power. This power is not uncontrolled aggression, but the power to manage for social and economic good. Delta Mu Delta membership is a lifetime achievement. It's the highest national recognition a business student can earn.
Graduate Student Council is a student-run governing body that advocates for Marywood graduate students. GSC members sit on various university committees, provide conference funding for graduate students, host various social events throughout the year, and advocate for graduate student needs.
The Integrated Math and Computer Science Club, iMacs, promotes mathematics and computer science in the community. Each year, its members participate in many on- and off-campus events. This organization is open to all students interested in promoting the opportunities and goals of mathematics. The club sponsors a mathematics contest for area high school students, field trips, and attendance at professional meetings.
The Math Club hosts Marywood's annual High School Math Contest. The contest consists of two 40-problem tests created by Math Club members under faculty supervision. Prizes are awarded for the top three scorers at each level.
International Education Honor Society, Rho Pi Chapter works in conjunction with the Pennsylvania State Educators Association (PSEA) Club. Kappa Delta Pi claims over 600 chapters across North America and 45,000 total members. Invitations to join are based on academic achievement, a commitment to education as a career, and a professional attitude which assures the members steady growth in the field of education.
National Catholic College Graduate Honor Society. The purpose of the Kappa Gamma Pi Society is to strive for a high standard of personal Christian excellence, service, and scholarship among members; to encourage individual and group initiative and participation in local and national church and secular affairs; and to awaken a spirit of Christian leadership among the undergraduates of Kappa affiliated colleges and universities.
National Mathematics Honor Society. Its chapters are located in colleges and universities of recognized standing which offer a strong mathematics major. KME has over 80,000 members in about 150 chapters in 35 states.
National Honor Society for the Human Sciences acknowledges undergraduate and graduate students who have shown outstanding dedication to their Nutrition and Dietetics course work. Our vision includes lifelong opportunities for professional and personal growth through networking, education and service. Kappa Omicron Nu is proud to be a certified member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS). The mission of ACHS is to build a cohesive community of national and international honor societies, individually and collaboratively exhibiting excellence in scholarship, service, programs and governance. Only non-profit honor societies may become member of ACHS.
The Zeta Omicron chapter of Kappa Pi International Art Honor Society is a service organization for art majors, sophomores & up who have at least a 3.0 overall GPA and a 3.5 in their major. Zeta Omicron helps our members get involved in the local art community. The group also sponsors several art-related community service projects each year, and offers scholarships as well as publication opportunities. Join the Zeta Omicron chapter of Kappa Pi to engage in art-related activities with other art majors who care about art in its role in life.
The purpose of Club Kidstuff is to provide an opportunity for Marywood students to serve children from local agencies. Students plan and facilitate an annual campus wide service event during the spring semester. This event brings children from local organizations of Lackawanna county to campus for a day of activities, games, entertainment, and fun. During the fall semester we will brainstorm for the event and delegate committees within the club. During the spring semester, we begin organizing and preparing for our event. Club members have the opportunity to gain leadership, organizational, and professional skills planning an amazing service event that benefits both our local community and the Marywood community.
MUSATA is composed of graduate and undergraduate art therapy students with the support of the Marywood art therapy faculty. The main purpose of this group is to network, share personal, artistic, educational, and overall professional growth opportunities. This group strives to promote art therapy as a means of life improvement. MUSATA seeks out volunteer opportunities so that its members can gain experience with a variety of populations while lending a helping hand in accordance with Marywood's curricular goal of service learning.
Marywood University Student Educators provides an opportunity for the students of Marywood University to be involved in the education department through educational activities within the local and surrounding communities. Students who take part of this club will have multitude of opportunities for professional growth. We will provide opportunities for students to take part of professional organizations, as well as providing opportunities for networking between students, faculty, and community members. MUSE is comprised of the Pennsylvania State Educators Association (PSEA), the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), Kappa Delta Pi, and Sigma Pi Epsilon Delta.
The Outdoors Club provides an opportunity to enjoy various trips in the outdoors as well as a chance to get off campus, meet like-minded people, and make memories. This includes, but is not limited to; hiking, backpacking, camping, and fishing. The members of the club will learn basic camping skills, cooking on the trail, fire building, and other related techniques. Students with all levels of experience are welcome to join us.
